OK, I have this problem with Blondie, yall may not know how to help me but it can't hurt to ask right? Yea anyway, we start going and then she'll pull her head down then she'll throw her head up really fast. I thought maybe when she throws her head up if I pull down on the reins she'd quit but she doesn't! Now she just pulls her head down and then throws her head up and jumps cuz she knows I'm going to pull down on the reins. I don't know how to stop her. I've asked my mom and she doesn't know how I can get her to stop. Do yall have any idea's I can try?

um first make sure nothing is hurting her and make sure she is just being a poop
then if its nothing physical than you can start to corect her and I would do that by when she does put her head down take one rain and have her bend her head and yes she will lean on it probebly unless she knows that allready but if she is turning and leaning on the bit then hold it until she gives up and quits leaning and as soon as you feel the pressure off than release vary quickly since that is her reward and if she doesnt quite with that than you can do almost the same thing but when she brings her head up make sure you praze her really well and tell her thats a good girl and at the same time (will take a little wile probebly) than stay really easy on her and dont jurk up fast and hard
or there is one other thing you can do is every time she puts her head down kick her up to a faster gaite esecaily a canter since it is hard for them to canter with there head down

I know nothing is hurting her she just wants me off.
She doesn't take a bit. We just use a regular hackamore. I'm thinking about getting a bit and trying to get her to take it. The problem with that is 2 things, one she does it so fast the only thing I do is grab her neck so I don't go flying off the front. and also when she goes to a faster gait is when she either trys to take off and not stop or when she does it more. I know why she does it, its because I have to keep her reined in so she doesn't take off and throw me. I want to give her more reins but every time I try she tries to take off. Next time I ride I'll try to turn her head or kick her into a faster gait. Thanks for the advice!

when she puts her head down do you pull up?
if so (this will take a little wile) than dont pull and just pet her until she relaxes
does she know how to flex if not than start from the ground and with a halter and teach her to flex both ways and is comfortable with that then when you get on her you can walk around and just have her head one way for a step or if she is fighting you than you can keep it there longer until she gives to the pressure than go to the other side and do it again (but if you do your home work on the ground it should be purty easy) and this will also help you when she takes off since you can do a one rain stop and thay have to stop all you do for that is pull there head around and then move her back end around in a pivot and that disingages them and thay have to stop
if you try kicking her up faster than make sure you are in a controled invironment until you get the one rain stop if she doesnt stop any other way just make sure that you are carfull with the hackamore since if it used incorectly you can break there noses but what i told you will not hurt them even if thay start fighting and throughing there head up dont let go of the pressure and when thay stop there feet and give a tiny bit for you than give them there head emedatly that is there reward
or if you dont want to do that you can walk around the ring and every time you feel her putting her head down pick up the rains and dont let her then when she does it fine at walk consistantaly than you can move up to a trot and canter
if this doesnt work than let me know and i have a bunch of other things you can try
but make sure you do your homework on the ground before in the saddle and that will help a bunch

When she pulls her head down she pulls me down too because she does it so fast, and I have to grab her neck so I don't fall off. I don't know if this will make any difference in your advice but remember she is a barral racer. I know that makes a little bit of a difference when training them. I'll try those though! Thanks!!!

your welcome
that does help knowing that she is a barrel horse
does she do it when she runs the barrels or is it when you are trying to just have a relaxing ride and are you riding her the same way as you would when you are gaming?
you know my horse will put his head down to but thats his way of bucking with out taking his feet off the ground and he wont get in trouble for it
I think i have gave you some tools that should help if thay dont i will give you some others that you can try
but MAKE sure that you do what you need to on the ground BEFORE you get on like with the flextion get her good on the ground and then it will be twice i easy to do it when your on top
and also teach her to yeld her hind end and that will help you when she goes to run way or if she trys to buck (ill give you thoghs tools later you have a LOT to work on but when you have these down you will have a much easer horse to handle and not hassling her when she doesnt want to do somthing and it will be much funner for you and her

Well i'm trying to get her off of barrels to make her a trail horse so I only do barrels every so often. She pulls her head down to get more reins to run faster cuz when we're doin barrels she doesn't do it but if I try to stop her or slow her down she does that and then she bucks up a little when she throws her head up. But I'll try those and see if she stops! Thanks for the help!!

ok if she is bucking than you really need to yeld her back end and teach her that it is not ok to buck or the only other thing that i can think of is that she doesnt like the hackamore

ok I would say then get her in a round pen (or a controled invoronment) and ask her to go around it at least a trot and if you can see the back of the saddle off of her back than you need to keep her going until she relaxes her back since when thay are like that its more prone to them to buck
and when she pulls her head down make sure that you sit back DEEP and try to stay back and get her head back up since you cant do a one rain stop when when you are leaning over her neck
and try to feel when she is getting ready to do it and corect her (your way) right when she goes to do it then pull her head around
