So me and Cassia (thats right, our name is almost the same) took my horse Shadow and her horse Feather into the feild today and rode. We jumped and loped and it was so fun! So heres some pics and videos for comments and critiques. Remember that Feather is only 3 and has little training and that Shadow and I have zero jumping or english training. I also didn't do 2-point as I was in a western saddle. I also know that western saddles aren't very good to jump in as they can hurt a horses back but we didn't do much and this is the first time so ya. Oh my gosh! Shadow's got a GIGANTIC jump!!!!! Lol I can't really critique that though, considering that you were in a western saddle and wern't doing 2-point. Great pics though!!!

In the video it didn't seem like she was jumping that big though. One thing, slow it down a bit. You're going tooooo fast especially for a little jump like that. If I were you, i'd probably even trot up to that jump. It could have just seemed like you were going fast on the vid though.

Ok, ya the pics were taken earlier and I think she was unsure of how to judge it so she jumped high. The video was taken after we had jumped a bit more and she started getting lazy about it.
Is she jumping mabey a bit to soon or is that a good distance? And shes supposed to tuck her front legs up isn't she? I think that part will just come with higher jumps. I think she'll do it once she has to but right now she has no way to know.
I've got 1 month of riding her then she'll get 2 months off then start english training.

Yeah, she's jumping too early, but she'll learn to judge how soon to take off. With a little jump like that she won't have much of a tuck, but when the jumps get bigger she should tuck her front legs more.

You also need to stay out of the saddle longer and keep your seat lighter, if you keep slamming on her back like that it will really start to hurt her and she will get sour(try grabbing some mane to keep your body out of the saddle until you get used to it) Trotting fences will also help. I can't really see the distance all too well because she is going so fast and the jump is so small, but they look pretty good from what I can tell.

Yeah, major long spot there. And she's sort of just stepping over it. She'd probably love a higher one

like the rest said its hard to tell on her take off point becuase she isnt really jumping the poll she is just kinda galloping over it. but if you slow down and raise the jump some it will be easer to tell her take off.
and becuase of being in a western saddle dont go into 2 point but raise your seat (sorta like your stand in your sturrups) so that way you dont hit her back and you dont jam your gut into to saddle horn (that hurts REALLY bad)

Ooh, I know how to stop her over jumping! Try doing some bounces with her, it'll get her used to jumping, plus she'll square her knees. To get used to two point hold on to your horse's mane at a walk, when you're comfortable, try it at a trot, then at a canter, then you'll master two point. But yes, Shadow has some potential!
