I wrote this for my english class
My First Flight
Have you ever flown? I have, it wasn’t in an airplane, or with a parachute, and I certainly didn’t grow wings. Yet I somehow managed to fly, yes I said fly! To lose all sense of direction whilst flying upside down through the air is an extremely strange sensation. I still haven’t been able to tell if it was scary or even funny, the rest of my family thought it was hilarious!
It all started one sweltering hot summer in San Marcos, Texas. It was the typical family vacation, filled with boring sightseeing and plenty of perfect Kodak moments. Of course my brothers and I couldn’t let this vacation pass by without causing some type of havoc, so like siblings do we picked every little argument we could just to annoy our parents. No matter how out of hand this havoc gets, someone always has to take it that one step to far. And this was certainly the case on this “typical” family vacation.
My family has always lived by the saying “Its only funny until someone gets hurt, then its hilarious”; this came into effect one day whilst tubing on the lazy river. How anyone can go his or her whole life without floating down a river on an inner tube is beyond me. Who doesn’t love being able to forget all their worries and troubles whilst floating down a river with a cooler full of beer at your feet? It is so easy to relax and have fun joining in with the calming vibes of nature, that is of course if my brothers and I aren’t there to destroy that peace and harmony. To us a relaxing afternoon on the river involves attempting to flip each other’s tube, whilst fighting your way through the constant wall of water being splashed in your face. However the fun does not end back on dry land, we amuse ourselves by playing an oversized game of human horseshoes, throwing inner tubes into the air and attempting to get them to land over each other’s heads. After discovering that the tubes fit nicely stacked one on top of the other with me standing in the middle of them, I decided to place all five of our tubes over my body at once, so that all you could see was the top of my head sticking out at the very peak. So there I was stood at the top of the riverbank covered head to toe in tubes minding my own business, when my brothers decided to take that one step to far in causing family vacation havoc.
All it took was one tiny push to send me flying head over heels down the bank. Now equipped with my new rubber clothing line, I had no trouble performing acrobatics I never once thought I would be able to perform. After the “help” from my brothers, I flew down the bank, did a back flip, bounced about two feet back up into the air, and finally landed straight back down on my head, narrowly avoiding falling back into the river! After recovering from the initial shock of experiencing my first flight, I looked up to see my mom attempting to free me from my rubbery death trap and the rest of my family and every other person on the river in laughing in hysterics!
So next time you think a day tubing on the lazy river is a safe way to pass the time just remember to stick with only one inner tube and no pesky brothers!
